Shepherd and Sheep

🐑 Shepherd and Sheep 🐑

Psalm 23 is an evergreen, all time favorite Psalm for the youngest to the oldest. This Psalm, fails to lose its charm though we keep on reading it day after day. This is the most loved and easy Psalm to be memorized. Hope we all have memorized this Psalm?

David grew up in the fields tending his sheep. His formative years as a shepherd made him realize the goodness of God as the Great Shepherd. And this is reflected in Psalm 23.

David was a committed shepherd, who took great care of his sheep. He even saved few of them from the clutches of a bear and a lion. He knew where to lead them for pastures and when to lead them beside quiet waters.

His rod and staff guided and guarded the sheep when they had to walk in dangerous valleys and mountain cliffs. The sheep were happy and safe under his guidance. They were loved by him and felt secure in his hands.

This made David consider himself as a sheep and God as the Great Shepherd. If he could care and tend his flock, then how much more God will take care of us, His sheep.

Dear ones in Christ, Jesus is our Good Shepherd. He is the Best Shepherd who gave His life for us on the cross. He cares for us individually. He carries us when the going gets tough. He cautions us; He chastens us; at the same time He comforts us. When we wander astray, His rod pulls us back into His fold.

The real query is, do we listen to His voice and follow Him wherever He leads us? If anyone has strayed far away, return to His tending care. Surely His goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our life.

God bless us to be channels of blessings.
