( LUKE 10 : 38-42 )

Dr. Luke was so careful to place the account of the Good Samaritan before the happenings at the meal time at Mary – Martha’s home with Jesus as the guest. The story of the Good Samaritan teaches a Christian to be merciful and to help the deprived soul. And in order to excel with such gifts ” we must spend time with the Lord and learn from Him “.

Mary and Martha in today’s passage shows two contrasting characters that a believer must make a choice to be — a WORKER like Martha or a WORSHIPPER like Mary.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT ❓
A WORKER and a WORSHIPPER must spend their time with the Lord.

🙆‍♂️ MARTHA’S TENSION
Martha opened her home for Jesus ; and she was doing a good job by preparing the meal for Jesus and his disciples. She was showing her love to Jesus through her service . Bible says, “… let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth”. 1John 3:18

📌 It is not wrong to be busy in serving God but things goes wrong when one is distracted and grumble while serving.

1️⃣ MARTHA WAS DISTRACTED v 40a : To prepare the meal for 15-16 people is not an easy job. It needs strength and patience .

2️⃣ MARTHA REBUKED JESUS v 40b : “..Don’t you care ? I have all this work to do..!!”

3️⃣ MARTHA COMPLAINED AGAINST MARY v 40c : “My sister has left me to do all the work by myself “

4️⃣ MARTHA DIRECTS JESUS v 40c : “Tell Mary to help her”.

🙇‍♂️ MARTHA’S ADMONITION
Jesus called gently to Martha and said , “Mary has chosen what is better..” and this is the one thing( fellowship with Christ ) that she lacks / needed “.

🙋‍♀️ MARTHA’S TRANSFORMATION
Martha have learned her lesson , for she prepared a dinner again for Jesus and his disciples and also for them – without uttering one word of complaint. John 12:1-2

📝 MY INSIGHT FROM TODAY’S PORTION

🎯 There are some Christians who spend more time in the service without spending time with the Lord.

🎯 A Balanced Christian Life is encourage ie ” the time we spend in service and the time we spend in prayer and worship must go hand in hand”.

🎯 If we do not pray and worship, our service becomes dry and powerless. On the other hand, if we do no work of service our religion becomes dead ( James 2:17 )

🎯 It is not what we do is most important: it is WHY WE DO IT.

💕 Beloved Church, Martha was REBUKED FOR HER WORLDLY ANXIETY , not for her serving .
Mary was COMMENDED FOR HER LOVE FOR HIM, not for her sitting. @ Dr Tom Hale

Yes, there is only ONE THING NEEDED for today’s MARTHAS – “Fellowship with Christ” :
Spending time with Him.
Listening Him .
Learning from Him .
